New learning materials!

During my trip to Taiwan, I picked up a bunch of books and haven’t really touched them since I got back. I thought it would be a good idea to pick some of the books and use them as topics for posts on here. I’ll be using the following books: I’ll start with my posts soon. If any of you have any requests for things that you want to see, leave a comment and I’ll be sure to take it into consideration.

Anki flashcards

I’ve been studying languages for many years and one of the most common learning tools is flashcards. A very popular learning method and tool is known as SRS, or spaced repetition software. One such software is Anki. I have avoided Anki for many years thinking that it would be too boring for me, however I have recently begun using it and I have to say that it is quite effective. It is open-source and available on Windows, Mac, Linux/BSD, iOS, Android, and can even be used from a browser.

Posting schedule

So I now plan on posting every Monday. If/once more people start viewing my blog then I may start copying xkcd’s schedule and posting every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This keeps my posts consistent and doesn’t wear me out too quickly. No more giant lulls where I don’t do anything for months. One post a week, for good. If you want more, then leave a comment. What say you?

RSS feed!

So we have an RSS feed now. Click on the link in the “Useful Links” to get instant notifications when a new post is made. If you don’t know how to use RSS, and have a Google account, you can use Google Reader. If you have any questions, leave a comment and I can help you get it set up.^^

New Vocab

So I’ve decided I would like to start making posts with new vocabulary that I’m learning. They must all be accompanied by a real-life example, and perhaps an example sentence. I may hold off on the example sentences for now, since I don’t have very much time to dedicate to this. However, I would like to make this a daily thing or maybe every few days if possible. Let me know what you think!

Even newer domain name :)

So I decided that I wanted to reserve ryper.org for my personal things, so for now I have it set up to automatically redirect to simplified-traditional.com. I hope you guys like the new domain name. Leave a comment about what you think. I hope to start posting again very very soon. I still have a few more things I’d like to do to the site before then, but it won’t take long.

Yay, wordpress is back up!

So I finally got WordPress back up on a server. I know it’s taken me a while, but I’ve had a lot of things going on. I may still have a few problems with PHP not working properly. If you see a 502 error, please let me know by emailing me at contact@simplified-traditional.com. UPDATE: PHP problem has been fixed. The only thing left is the date on the left-hand side should probably be in Chinese.

Under Construction

Hi all. I have just finished moving my blog from Blogger to WordPress, so expect things to be a bit strange for a while. I have to change the layout a bit so things look smoother. I am working on figuring out how to localize parts of the page so that the dates aren’t all screwed up on the left of each post. So a lot has to be done and I don’t have a lot of time to work on it.

New URL

Hi all. For those of you who are trying to access the blog using https://simplified-traditional.blogspot.com, it won’t work. I have changed the URL for two reasons. One, I now own a domain, so it will be much easier to type the site, and 2, I had a little pest problem, so changing the URL will fix that. So here’s the new address. https://simplified-traditional.com A lot easier, eh? 🙂 Who knows if I’ll ever get back to writing posts or not.
